Preparations for the new greenhouse continue. Yesterday, we had a contractor come in and clear the area. We set aside about 60′ x 20′ for the greenhouse and cleared the trees and brush around that space. We still have lots of trees and brush for the local animals, around this new open space.
Here is one of the first trees coming down.
This is after about an hour with most of the space cleared.
To give some perspective on the change, the 12′ x 9′ greenhouse used to be at the left edge of the woods. It is now approximately 25-30 feet from the trees at left.
Done.
Now, our next step will be to clean the area and level the ground. (Volunteers are welcome!) Once the ground is prepared, we can erect the new greenhouse. We expect to erect it this Fall, and be ready for Spring planting in March. We’ll be planting approximately 10,000 plants, which will be given away free to local residents, schools, scouts, and community gardens. To get the free plants, the recipients sign a pledge to share their harvest throughout the Spring/Summer/Fall. Food will be given away to friends, neighbors, strangers, and food banks.
